YOUTH ACTION MOVEMENT GHANA COMMITMENT STATEMENT ON THE ICPD+25

Commitment description:

We, the Youth Wing of Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana herein referred to as the Youth Action Movement- Ghana (YAM-GH), acting and advocating on behalf of young people in Ghana in matters concerning their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights call on governments and other stakeholders in Ghana to:

  1. Re commit to the fundamental precepts of the ICPD PoA in advancing the health of women and children.
  2. Commit adequate funding in ensuring Universal Health Coverage and for the effective implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme including cover for Family Planning and Sexual and Gender based Violence (SGBV).
  3. Commit to putting in place structures to ensure the delivery of sexual and reproductive health education for all young people including People Living with various forms of Disability and hard to reach communities.
  4. Commit to creating safe spaces for young people at homes, school, places of worships, markets, workplace and many others to express themselves without discrimination or abuse.

 

As a Movement, we commit to

  1. Continuous advocacy and activism in advancing the sexual and reproductive health and rights of all young people in the country.
  2. Participate in national processes after ICPD25 to ensure that, ICPD25 commitments are fully integrated into national development plans
  3. Hold government accountable for the commitments that would be made at the Nairobi Summit in November 2019.
  4. Mobilize our constituents to promote the ideals of ICPD PoA including ensuring healthy sexual and reproductive health lives.
  5. Promote universal human rights and the respect of human dignity including the rights to sexual and reproductive health education and services.

(4) Access for all adolescents and youth, especially girls, to comprehensive and age-responsive information, education and adolescent-friendly comprehensive, quality and timely services to be able to make free and informed decisions and choices about their sexuality and reproductive lives, to adequately protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, all forms of sexual and  gender-based violence and harmful practices, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS, to facilitate a safe transition into adulthood.
