Looking back while moving forward: The High-Level Commission ready for its second year of work

UNITED NATIONS, New York – At the High-Level Commission’s (HLC) first meeting of the year, held on 7 and 8 of February, the 29 members reflected on the commission’s first year of operation and the launch of its inaugural report “No Exceptions, No Exclusions: Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights and Justice for All”. Co-chaired by H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, former President of Tanzania, and H.E. Michaëlle Jean, former Governor-General of Canada, the gathering was also an opportunity for members to discuss the work plan for the year ahead and assess processes and procedures as they take next steps.

This is the first report of the High-Level Commission on the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25 Follow-up, which has been established to track progress and report on the implementation of the commitments made at the landmark Nairobi Summit on ICPD25, in particular the 12 core commitments contained in the Nairobi Statement.

UNITED NATIONS, New York – At its second 2021 meeting in May, the High-level Commission on the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25 Follow-up (HLC) saw its three working groups present their work to date for plenary discussion and feedback, focusing on key issues like inequalities further exacerbated by COVID-19, the importance of the “rights” part of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), bodily autonomy and individuals’ agency, the pandemic’s impact on the quality of and access to care and the financial implications and politics of the SRHR agenda.
