Commitment title:

Panama's declaration to uphold commitments of the ICPD + 25 agenda action plan

Commitment description:

The Government of the Republic of Panama, which assumed functions on July 1, has proposed a transversal approach to gender policy that is evident in its commitment to establish a Presidential Cabinet composed of 35% women in key ministries of Government.

It is urgent to involve women and girls as agents of change. For the empowerment of women and girls, it is necessary to promote public policies that enhance their leadership at all levels, as well as their economic empowerment; in such a way, we can combat gender inequality and discrimination in all its forms.

Along these same lines, we will continue promoting initiatives to combat gender violence and thus ensure that every woman, throughout her life cycle (childhood, adolescence, and adulthood), can live a healthy, productive and violence-free life.

Panama is committed to its youth. We are working to ensure the full participation of young people in all processes, evidenced by a significant percentage of young people currently occupying decision-making positions.

From the government, we are promoting initiatives to involve them not only in the design but also in the implementation of programs, policies, and strategies that improve their leadership and their contribution to peace, stability, security, and sustainable development.

In our country, achieving the autonomy of the most vulnerable people plays a fundamental role in guaranteeing the exercise of their rights in an equal context.

We are talking about Indigenous and Afro-descendant populations, and, among them, women, youth, girls, boys, and people with disabilities.

We highlight Panama's commitment to the International Decade of Afro-descendants, thus declared by the United Nations, with its three pillars: recognition, justice, and development.
