Commitment title:

Mobilizing & Empowering Youth to Implement the Unfinished Business of ICPD

Commitment description:

On behalf of the UN Major Group for Children and Youth, we commit to:

1. Support young advocates and youth-led organisations to make commitments towards the achievement of the ICPD Programme of Action, providing a platform where these can be made and tracked.

2. Provide an annual space for young people from across the world to highlight progress and share barriers and opportunities to advance the ICPD Programme of Action, starting with the UN High Level Political Forum in 2020.

3. Empower young people to demand their rights and hold national systems and services accountable. In particular, we commit to amplifying the voices of adolescents in our advocacy efforts and working to strengthen national platforms for increased and equitable adolescent engagement in developing policies and programs that impact them.

In support of this ambition, we commit to working with partners launching a Call to Action on Adolescent Health and Wellbeing in 2020, supported by a clear advocacy roadmap towards 2030.

4. Host at least one in-person Action Workshop in each of the five United Nations regions, as well as multiple online webinars, in 2020/21.Based on regional contexts, each workshop will have different focuses, but all of them will:

- Facilitate discussion about the ICPD Programme of Action and the action & accountability required to move this agenda forward;
- Share knowledge from youth and experts alike;
- Build capacity and skills for young people to effectively mobilise and advocate for universal access to sexual and reproductive health and the realisation of girls’ and women’s empowerment and gender equality
- Provide a space for participants to launch new actions. All workshops will have gender balance.
