Commitment title:

Increasing & improved funding for menstrual health and hygiene

Commitment description:

Members of the MHH coalition - comprised of key organisations working in research, programming and advocacy around MHH - will use their advocating power to strengthening funding for menstrual health research, programming and data collection and we will provide analysis and regularly track donor and domestic funding to support accountability towards this commitment.

The target is that by 2025, 30 countries are committing resources towards MHM.
Only a few years ago, the issue of menstruation was almost completely wrapped in silence. We are seeing unprecedented levels of public interest and media coverage and - as a result - a sharp increase in political relevance.
Despite all the remarkable progress over the past few years, there has not been equal progress in terms of funding and MHM continues to be extremely underfunded at all levels. There is an urgent need for concerted and focused efforts to catalyse investment in the issue. Over the past few months several key funders have moved towards investing in MHM and the French government has been the first funder to announce an 8-figure investment ring-fenced only for MHM.
What is needed is to strengthen funding for research around evidence, as well identify current gaps of funding into menstrual health and hygiene management for all people who menstruate across the life-cycle, so that investment into programming and data collection will be evidence-based.
