Commitment title:

Girls and adolescents free from sexual violence and forced child pregnancy and motherhood in LAC.

Commitment description:

Promote the ensured provision of age-appropriate comprehensive sex education in order to prevent sexual violence against children and adolescents, respecting their evolving autonomy and status as subjects of the law and their special protection, incorporating it into compulsory school curricula, as well as training for at least 150 skilled teachers each year, in order to reduce the prevalence of sexual violence against children, eradicate forced and unplanned pregnancies and contribute to the effective development of complete societies. Promote access to justice in order to eliminate violence – in particular sexual violence – against women and girls, by encouraging the countries in the region to commit to providing the justice system with an adequate budget to respond in a comprehensive manner, with the allocation of sufficient public resources to ensure its functioning, infrastructure and trained staff, among other needs, which can be monitored with transparency and accountability, thereby strengthening the full exercise of rights. Strengthen access to health care services for the provision of abortions for child and adolescent victims of sexual violence, without legal restrictions or penalization, through the promotion of state commitments in the justice, education and health sectors, so that girls and adolescents facing forced pregnancies have the right to make decisions on their reproductive autonomy, without delay, restriction or the use of conscientious objection as a barrier in health care services, through effective training for health care staff who provide high-quality care in public services in the countries in the region, so that by 2022 no girl will have to live through a pregnancy as a result of state negligence. Finally, we urge the countries in the region to use public policies to restrict DE FACTO UNIONS between girls and adults, in order to halve them.
