DECLARATION OF NATIONAL COMMITMENT TO IMPLEMENTING THE ICPD@25 PROGRAMME OF ACTION AND THE SDGs

Commitment description:

The Government of the Republic of Cameroon Stresses the need for the comprehensive, successful and accelerated implementation of the Cairo Programme of Action in order to achieve the national development objectives, in accordance with our laws, traditions and sociocultural environment.

It also reaffirms its support for the ICPD Programme of Action and the Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development. Commits to:

1-Stepping up efforts to carry out and finance the Cairo Programme of Action, as well as the key actions of the 2030 Agenda, to effectively reduce the maternal and child morbidity and mortality rates; 2-Guaranteeing access to quality, age-appropriate information and education for adolescents and young people both in and out of school to adequately protect them from unintended pregnancies, sexual violence, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS; 3-Tackling gender-based violence and harmful practices, such as early and forced marriages, and female genital mutilation; 4- Capitalizing on the demographic transition to stimulate economic growth and achieve sustainable development, by harnessing the demographic dividend through increasing investment in education, creating decent jobs, and adolescent and youth health, including family planning; 5-Providing quality, timely and disaggregated evidence and improving data systems; 6-Supporting the participation and meaningful involvement of young people in development actions; 7-Meeting the basic humanitarian needs of affected populations, including basic health and education services

(12) Ensuring that the basic humanitarian needs and rights of affected populations, especially that of girls and women, are addressed as critical components of responses to humanitarian and environmental crises, as well as fragile and post-crisis reconstruction contexts, through the provision of access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health information, education and services, including access to safe abortion services to the full extent of the law, and post-abortion care, to significantly reduce maternal mortality and morbidity, sexual and gender-based violence and unplanned pregnancies under these conditions.
