Commitment title:

Commitment to ending gender-based violence and harmful practices through support for women's rights organizations

Commitment description:

At the Ford Foundation, we believe that everyone should be able to live a life of dignity and it’s time our societies end the scourge of gender-based violence. We are specifically advocating for the Global South to get a larger share of international funds flowing towards women’s rights and feminist organizations fighting to end VAWG. In all our work we support an emphasis on prevention of violence and the leveraging of resources for this work.

We believe that women and girls have the power to make change happen and that they should be at the center of the response, by setting their own agenda and developing their own culturally appropriate solutions to the problem of GBV. Our bold vision aligns with the ICPD25 commitment towards ending gender-based violence and harmful practices and will be resourced in the amount of $78.4million over three years from 2019 - 2021. These resources will be spent in our international program as well as our regional programs in Southern Africa, West Africa, India and Latin America. It is geared toward strengthening women’s rights and feminist institutions in terms of their sustainability and ensuring that more resources are directed towards women and girls in the global South. More importantly, we are pledging this amount with a view to leverage more resources and encouraging partnerships between different actors and sectors committed to women and girls’ right to be free from all forms of violence.
