Joanna Herat
Senior Programme Specialist UNESCO

Joanna Herat is a Senior Programme Specialist at UNESCO, providing policy and technical leadership to improve health and wellbeing for young people through education. Her areas of technical leadership are comprehensive sexuality education, HIV prevention, school-related gender-based violence, early and unintended pregnancy and gender equality. Joanna previously worked for the International HIV/AIDS Alliance (Frontline AIDS) supporting community-based HIV interventions in Africa and Asia, with a focus on key populations. She started her career teaching and managing theatre for HIV education programme in Tanzania and Cameroon. Joanna has a Masters in Anthropology of Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.
