Angela Nguku
National Coordinator White Ribbon Alliance Kenya

Angela Nguku, is passionate maternal and newborn health champion, whose career spans over fifteen years of dedicated work towards ending preventable maternal and newborn deaths globally and amplifying the voices of marginalized and vulnerable populations in Kenya, throughout Africa, and globally. A graduate midwife and an accomplished influencer, Angela combines her influencing and negotiation skills in advocating for the accountability for the health of mothers, newborns and the voices of frontline health workers mainly midwives to be heard and included at all levels of decision making

Angela’s career as a transformative leader began in 2005 while working in South Sudan, and where she was met with the sad reality of mothers dying daily in childbirth because of a dysfunctional health system after decades of civil war. She has since worked in different capacities within different organizations across Africa, Asia and Latin America where she has used her skills and experience to advance the voices of women and girls and newborns as human beings with rights.

Moved by the high maternal and newborn mortality in Kenya and many parts of the developing world, Angela mobilized other likeminded players to establish the WRA Kenya, a platform she uses to advance the voices of mothers, newborns and midwives. WRA Kenya inspires and unites citizens to demand the right to a quality an equitable health care for every woman, everywhere.

Due to her unwavering dedication to her work, Angela was recently selected to be a member of the Global Action Plan for Healthier Lives and Well Being Civil Society Advisory Group. She is a member of the People’s Voice Advisory Board of the Lancet Global Health Commission on High Quality Health Systems in the SDGs Era, an advisory member of the Deliver for Good Campaign in Kenya, the CSO Accountability group of the Global Financing Facility in Kenya as well as a member of the Kenya SDGs forum. In 2018, Angela Nguku was nominated by Bill and Melinda Gates as a GOALKEEPER, joining a list of other key change makers across the world.
