Kenya is "privileged" to host the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) with the Nairobi Summit on ICPD25, Josephine Kibaru-Mbae, Director General of the National Council for Population and Development, wrote in an op-ed for the local Mediamax network.

The Summit will be held on November 12-14 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre and is expected to attract around 5,000 delegates.

"As Cairo was the watershed moment 25 years ago for sexual and reproductive health and rights, similarly, Nairobi will be the moment when no one is left behind, ensuring rights and choices for all," she noted.

The event is coming at a crucial moment for the country. Kenya, Ms. Kibaru-Mbae explained, is embracing universal health coverage as part of the government's Big Four national development agenda. It is also aligned with Kenya's commitments to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Kenya has been consistently submitting national reviews of implementation of the ICPD Programme of Action to the African Union and UNFPA, the last one in 2018.
