Commitment title:

Implementation of the Pando Departmental Plan for the Prevention of Child and Adolescent Pregnancy

Commitment description:

The Pando Departmental Plan for the Prevention of Child and Adolescent Pregnancy is a public policy that arose from the latent need to reduce the high rates of pregnancy in this vulnerable group. Pando tops the national statistics at 32.4 per cent (INE 2016)

For three years, with UNFPA support, the health, education and justice sectors and the head of the Autonomous Government of Pando have worked to draw up a public policy that aims to help reduce adolescent pregnancy and child sexual violence, through the implementation of intersectoral strategies in the Department of Pando

In order to draw up the Departmental Plan, it was necessary to involve the population and public and private institutions, in line with the objectives set out. Children and adolescents played key roles; the demand came from them and they were the ones who adapted its content

During the 2019 Administration, two departmental laws were approved that generated involvement, awareness and action among the population: Law No. 092, which declared 2019 as the Year of Prevention of Child and Adolescent Pregnancy. Law No. 102, regarding the Departmental Plan, making Pando a national benchmark

By 2020, given the global situation and the short time left in office, advocacy measures will be prioritized in order to involve municipalities in the implementation of the Plan. The problem will be made visible through the sharing of prevention messages in the media, and by working with adolescents and young people so that they become agents of change and fully exercise their rights. Work will be done with adolescents who are pregnant or already mothers, and follow-ups will be carried out so that they can access health services, continue their studies, and prevent a second pregnancy.
