Major achievements of DPRK over the past 25 years
in implementation of ICPD PoA
• The maternal mortality ratio has declined by 45% between 1997-2015.
• The contraceptive prevalence rate has increased by 10.9% between 1997-2014.
• A 12-year free and compulsory education system is accessible to all children and adolescents and the graduation rate of girls from upper secondary education is almost 100%.
• The rights of women have been enhanced in all fields of social life including politics and economy, and the proportion of seats held by women is 17.8% in the election of deputies to the 14th Supreme People's Assembly (SPA) and is over 30% in the local elections, all held this year.
• The founding day of the youth league and the Youth Day are celebrated grandiosely every year, social atmosphere of placing importance on youth and adolescents is encouraged nationwide, and the educational institutions at all levels, youth league, and Women’s Union are required to intensify their roles in empowering the young people.

• To ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health as part of universal health coverage as specified in the National Reproductive Health Strategy(2017-2021)
• To reduce the maternal mortality ratio to less than half of the present level until 2020 and end preventable maternal death by 2030.
• To reduce the unmet needs for family planning by 75% of the present level by 2021 and ensure zero unmet needs for family planning by 2030.
• To continue strengthening the free medical care and education systems, thus generating competent human resources that will make contributions to the sustainable development of the country
• To stand against sexual and gender-based violence and all forms of discrimination against all women and girls.
